Geologic & Environmental Division
Our Geologic & Environmental division, Allterra Environmental, is focused around Professional Geologic services such as Environmental Site Assessment & Corrective Action, Storm Water Monitoring, and Geologic Hazard Investigations. Led by Certified Engineering Geologist, Professional Geologist, and Hydrogeologist Aaron Powers, our Environmental division is ready to help landowners and businesses with environmental compliance. Our strong history with RCRA, CERCLA, LUFT, and other regulatory-driven projects has prepared us for complex multidisciplinary projects where data collection, monitoring programs, technical reporting, and corrective action work is required.

In 2009 we launched an energy division, Allterra Solar, to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy on the central coast. Allterra’s unique data-driven approach and unparalleled customer service have fueled the Energy Division’ success. In 2012, Allterra Solar was awarded Best Solar Company in Santa Cruz County by readers of the Good Times and Santa Cruz Sentinel, titles that have yet to be relinquished. Subsequent awards include Best Place to Work in Monterey Bay by Monterey County Business Council and 2015 Cool Climate Leader by California Air Resources Board, an award earned by only five other companies in California.

- Academic: Aaron Powers graduated with honors with a BS in Geology from UCSC in 2002 and obtained a MS in Geology from UCSC in 2005 as well. With undergraduate and graduate study in the Santa Cruz Mountains at UCSC, Aaron spent a lot of time in the Coastal Range and Valleys mapping faults, landslides, and groundcracks, identifying geologic hazards, and was even a Graduate Student instructor for UCSC’s Field Geology course. Direct local academic experience means strong understanding of local geologic conditions.
- Professional: While pursuing his Geology MS degree at UCSC, Aaron begin working part time in the private sector. Aaron was a staff level geologist at both Geo Environmental Technologies (GET) and Nolen Associates, two local Santa Cruz County firms:
- GET: At GET, Aaron collected groundwater, soil, and vapor samples, drilled monitoring wells, logged and characterized soil lithology, etc. GET was an engineering firm focused on projects with fuel-impacted groundwater.
- Nolen: At Nolen Associates, Aaron worked as a Project Geologist and worked closely with Professional Geologists and Geotechnical Engineers focused on Geologic Hazard Investigations and Septic Site Evaluations & System Designs.
